Intro Letter

After a lot of effort and collaboration, we finally finished the text of our Intro Letter. All we need to finish it and send it in is work on some formatting and placing of pictures.  Here is the letter (without the pics).  Let me know what you think.   (It was difficult to write and we had to make it only one page which is so not easy!)

Hello!

We are Josh and Carole.  Thank you for taking the time to get to know a little bit about us.  We are in awe of your courage, strength, and love as you explore open adoption for your child.  We want you to know that should you choose to entrust us with the care of your child, we will take great care of him or her and love him or her unconditionally.

We have known one another since August 2002 when we met at an espresso bar where Carole worked at the time.  Despite her ability to make an “okay” mocha, Josh saw through the burnt taste of the coffee and fell in love in an instant (Carole now makes awesome coffee by way).  We were married in October of 2006.  Without sounding like a Lifetime movie of the week, Carole is still amazed how, one chance meeting, one quick glance, can turn your world upside down and inside out, leading you to your soul-mate.  We know that the same sort of life-changing love will begin when we meet our adoptive son or daughter.

We live in a small southern Oregon town surrounded by mountains and the Rogue River.  We enjoy spending time outdoors and taking advantage of the abundance of outdoor activities our community has to offer.  We raft the Rogue River in the summer, hike the many trails nearby, and take the dogs on walks and to swim in the river.  We enjoy going to the annual Shakespeare Festival and going to concerts during the summer at a local music festival.   We both love fixing up our house and working in our yard in an effort to truly make our house feel like a home.   While Carole does not always enjoy the process itself, she loves how the house looks when a project is complete.  Josh is definitely is the motivator when it comes to home improvement projects.

We have two sweet chocolate Labradors, Samantha and Madeline.  They are so much fun to be around!  Samantha was born blind but gets around well  with the help of Madeline who acts as her “seeing eye dog,” always checking up on her and getting her to play.  They both love being around children and are very patient and gentle.   We both love to cook and the BBQ is used at least once a week, rain or shine.  (OK, so Josh is the one who handles the BBQ in the rain and Carole is more shine.)  You can be sure that our child will grow up to have many childhood memories of BBQ’s and family dinners.

Carole grew up in a small northern California coastal community with seven sisters and four brothers.  Carole loves to read, dance, work-out, spend time with her family, and relax at home with Josh and the dogs.  Carole works in law enforcement  and loves  that she works in a job that strives to make the community safer.  Josh grew up in southern Oregon with an identical twin brother.  He was raised by his aunt and uncle who “un-officially” adopted him in 1991.  Josh loves anything to do with the outdoors.  He loves whitewater rafting, running, hiking, playing guitar, listening to music, working on the house, and spending time with Carole and our dogs.  Josh also works in law enforcement.

We look forward to starting our family through open adoption and hope for a close relationship with our child’s birth-family.  We both feel that open adoption is best for all involved and feel that in the long run, stronger family ties will be born through open adoption.  We look forward to getting to know you and working with you to create a warm, loving, open adoption family.  While we can never fully know how you feel or what you are going through, we know that this is not an easy time in your life.  Our hope is that, should you choose us to raise your precious child, that; we can be a source of understanding, love, and support not only for your child, but you as well.

                                                                              Sincerely,
                                                                                   Josh & Carole
