When And How To Share A Placement Announcement

As we wait for "the call," I have been thinking about how to tell our friends and family that we have been chosen.  Close friends and family will receive a phone call of course, but what about the rest?  Should there be a post on FB, a simple blog post, or should we wait?  Part of me wants to post it on FB, on my blog, and rent a giant sign announcing that we have been chosen.  Another part of me wants to wait until after we are holding our child in our arms and on our way home.

Many people advocate for waiting, and I understand why.  It would be hard to explain later that the adoption plan fell through due to the birthmom deciding to parent, or, after meeting, one or both parties involved decided it was not a good match.  At the same time, I can see how having your friends and family know what is going on with the adoption process, both good and bad, allows for a larger, more informed support group.

It is tough decision to make, one which I have spent countless hours thinking about without being able to come to a decision on.  It is frustrating that there is no clear path to take.  Hopefully, when the time finally arrives, I will know which path to choose.

What are your thoughts? Should we tell everyone right away, should we wait until we have been in family planning with the birth parents for a while, or should we wait till our child is placed in our arms and we are on our way home?

  1. Personally, I understand why it would be a good idea to be cautious at first, but this is also something that you will be wanting to shout from rooftops... Something you have wanted so long and others will want to share your joy. I say go big! <3

  2. I can only imagine....I'd tell all, BUT make it very clear that it isn't a done deal until all the legalities are squared away and the birth mom has signed the papers. Not sure on waiting periods and time to change her mind in Oregon, but I think the support will outweigh the possible downside. I can't wait for you guys! :)
