Part one of our homestudy is done! It took all of 30 minutes for the counselor to walk through the house, ask a few questions about the home and neighborhood and decide that our home is a safe environment for a child. The only things we still need to do are create an emergency evacuation plan and buy the "correct" type of fire extinguisher. We have two fire extinguishers already but they are not the 2A-10-BC (the more expensive) fire extinguishers. You would think that having two already would be enough. Oh well, I guess we will be looking into good deals on the correct ones. :)
The next step is scheduling the second portion of our homestudy, for which we will have to go back up to Eugene. This portion of the homestudy will explore our marital relationship, preparation for adoption, and our family lifestyle. We also have our individual interviews, which we probably schedule for the same day. With my current overtime schedule, and it being the Christmas season, we will be scheduling the next portion of the homestudy for the second week in January.
Had I known the first portion would be so simple, I would not have stressed over it. It seems that the more I stress about something regarding the adoption process, the simpler it turns out to be. I am working on not stressing but can't seem to stop. And, I would rather stress about it and have it turn out to be simple and easy, than not stress at all and have it turn out to be complicated and difficult.
I know that stress and anxiety go hand in hand with hope and joy during the adoption process. And I would not have it any other way. I also know I am not the only expectant mother to have a mix of all those feelings all at once. It is normal to have lots of conflicting emotions as we journey on this path. I also know that God is with me through it all, and His light guides my steps.
It is you who light my lamp; the Lord, my God, lights up my darkness. Psalms 18:28
