Deciding what type of adoption to choose

With all the different agencies and types of adoptions out there, which do you choose? Josh and I did a ton of research into this and looked at many agencies and programs, it is not an easy decision to make. There are so many children out there who need good homes.

The types of adoptions include: international adoptions, national adoptions, private adoptions, state adoption, open and closed adoptions, infant adoptions, older child adoptions and specials needs adoptions and all come with their own risks and costs. Different agencies charge different amounts for each type of adoption but in general can cost anywhere from $20,000 to $63,000.

One agency that we love is Bethany Christian Services, their fees are not too outrages, about $11,500 to $26,000 depending on state for domestic infant adoption. They seem to be a hard-working, caring agency that works closely with both the adoptive family and the birth family to make sure that things go as smoothly as possible. We are still discussing the possibility of trying to adopt through them in the future.

The other agency that we love, OK that I love, is Adoption Network. They specialize in domestic infant adoption and once approved to adopt through them, placement takes about 2-6 months. The fact that the placement time is so short is one of the reasons I love this agency. One problem with adopting through them is cost. It costs $40,000 to adopt though them. While we are saving money to adopt our children, it will take us a while to save up that much.

So while we are still looking at those agencies as possibilities in the future, we decided to start first with adopting, or trying to adopt, through the State of Oregon. When we started the process 2 years ago there were over 300 children in foster care waiting for their "forever" home. Thats a lot of children who need loving, caring, safe homes to grow up in! How could we say no to opening our home and hearts to children in our own state that need loving parents?

We simply couldn't and so we started the long, drawn out process of adopting through the State of Oregon. It is free to adopt through the State, but it can take anywhere from 2-7 years before getting a child. No matter how long it takes in the long run, I know that it will be worth it in the end and that It will happen in Gods time.

He has made everything beautiful in its time. ... Ecclesiastes 3:11

God has beautiful children waiting for us and in His good time we will finally meet them. :)
