When things get too tough to handle, when you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, remember that, even though you can not see it, even though it is hidden from view, God is working on your behalf. He so often works silently behinds the scenes, unseen, unfelt, unheard, until just the right moment. Personal experience has shown me just how unexpected and perfect His gifts are.
When Josh and I were officially in the pool of waiting families, Emma had already been conceived and had been developing, unbeknownst to anyone but God, for three months. Not even her birthmom knew about her yet. God has plans for each and every child conceived, and God had created Emma and destined her to be ours long before we knew of her. That month she was conceived was a rather dark month for me. We had been working so hard to get in the pool and, just when we thought it would finally happen, something else came up that we had to fill out, or read, or re-do. I was sad, depressed, and struggled to find the light through the darkness and doubt that threatened to overwhelm me.
Yet, God remained faithful, creating the most wonderful gift, our precious daughter, to be revealed at just the right moment. The timing of it all still amazes me. We were almost in the pool the month she was conceived, in the pool when she was at three months gestation, chosen at eight months (on our 6 year anniversary), blessed with her one month after we were chosen. Our wait, from the time we were supposed to be in the pool to her arrival, was nine months, the typical waiting period of most traditionally expectant parents, yet we did not know it.
Whenever I look at the sweet face of our beautiful daughter, I am awed and humbled by God faithfulness, grace, love, and the wonderful works of His mighty hands. Words can not express my gratitude to God for the wonder that is Emma. Words can not touch upon the amazing joy of being her mom. Words will never be able to encompass the profound and overwhelming love I feel for her.
Gods hands are constantly at work, creating miracle after miracle, wonder after wonder, bringing light and joy out of darkness and sorrow. They created our precious Emma, entrusted her to us for guidance, care and safekeeping. I pray we live up to the task He has set before us.
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the works of His hands. Psalms 19:1
