I love reading parenting magazine, reading all the wonderful advise, seeing all the great baby/kid items, ripping out pages of the cute little outfits I wish to get for my kids someday. I also love reading about all the neat do-it-yourself projects for making your child's birthday/Christmas/Halloween, etc. the best one ever.
However, with all those great do-it-yourself projects permeating every baby/parenting magazine, I am reminded over and over again how inept I am at crafts. I have come the conclusion that, because I am so horrible at projects that require cutting/pasting/sewing/knitting/crocheting/baking and designing awesome desserts/drawing straight lines, my kids will have a very sad child-hood.
I mean, now-a-days most moms can do all of that and then some and, yet, here I sit with all the crafty ability of a gnat. (Maybe that is too harsh on the gnat, they most likely are more crafty than I.) All my kids friends will have cute little home-made Halloween costumes, awesome birthday parties with home-made decorations and neat little cakes/cupcakes made special by their mom or dad, and my kids will suffer in store bought outfits and eat plain, uninspired cakes/cupcakes.
I know, I know, I should "practice" these things and I will soon get better at them. Sadly, I could practice all day every day and I will not get any better. Trust me on this. I could not even finish putting together a model car that was designed to be put together by a 10 year old (it still sits, partially completed, in its box in the attic.) So, no, for craft inept people such as myself, practice just wont work.
I wish to apologize in advance to my children, I know so-so's mom makes the best Halloween costumes, or makes the coolest decorations, or bakes the best desserts that actually look like whatever cartoon character/animal/etc, is "in" right now. I wish I could make things like that for you as well. But, even though I am not a cool, crafty mom, I sill love you with all my heart, and I hope that is enough.
P.S. - I can still read storybooks with the best of them, no cutting/pasting/baking/knitting/sewing/crocheting/drawing straight lines required!
Maybe Josh can cut the straight lines and when they're old enough, you can guide the kids into making the cute costumes an cakes - they'll have a blast and never know it's not mamas "thing" ;) besides... You sew a mean pointe ribbon!
ReplyDeleteLOL! Yes, Josh will have to be the one helping with the straight lines. I totally forgot about the pointe ribbons. Yay! I can help my kids with sewing (if they are into dance and need a ribbon sewn to their shoes) :)
